When I say we spent the weekend at the beach – flipflops, bikini and cocktails ? Not so in Alaska. Spring has just arrived and the snow has just melted so we layer up our clothing to keep warm, wear rubber boots for the stony, muddy beaches and keep warm around campfires.
We took a school trip to Homer which is a not so pretty fishing city – BUT … the scenery and wildlife are amazing – bald eagles, otters, halibut, starfish, seabirds, snowy mountains and beautiful Kachemak Bay.
stony beach – full of interesting creatures
even though it’s sunny we stay bundled up for the cold and wind
perfect windy day for kites
racing to build the tallest sandcastle
fishing in scenic waters
caught a little halibut
too much Dramamine for seasickness made Lauren sleepy
otters everywhere – a little to far away for good pics
usually we pull onshore for potty breaks – watch out for bears ! This outhouse looks a bit precarious
smores at the campfire – also roasted eels and halibut cheeks
